My entry for international fashion print design competition in June 2014

The theme was Homage to Henri Matissee. Designers were asked to think of bold colour blocks in simple, naive shapes to form collage style designs for leggings. The competiton is run by The Front Row Society based in Berlin with hundreds of entries from all over the world. Each design should be in repeat. Currently showing at The Tate Modern is the exhibition Henri Matisse: The Cut-outs.

I began cutting organic shapes from paper based on the natural forms of a cactus. I posiitoned them on white card. Matisse said “To arrive is to be in prison" so I decided to leave things quite raw in this design; the cut out paper shapes and the painting. I then adapted this collage in Photoshop to compete the final design. The reaction from viewers was very positive.
