Networking at Exhibition

The launch of a new art exhibition and arts venue in Southend, Essex was a big success. Lots of local artists were at the opening event as well as writers, DJ's, photographers and journalists. I was pleased to meet the novelist Zoe Howe (who I am pictured with in the photo below). She has written official biographies of many pop and rock performers including: Stevie Nicks, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Slits and Wilko Johnson. It was interesting to talk to her about her latest biography (soon to be published) of female punk icon Poly Styrene and to share stories about Poly and her ground-breaking band X-Ray Spex.

There was extensive coverage of the event in local media and a mention of the new venue in The Guardian newspaper on 23rd July 2017 as part of an article about the blossoming arts and cultural scene in Southend entitled "Southend-on-Sea: the arty way is Essex" written by Joanne O'Connor.

The mayor of Southend, Cllr Fay Evans also visited the exhibition.

Thanks to Southend's very own Niki Cornish Photography for this photo.
